Pieta’ maintained their 100 per cent record by disposing of the feeble challenge by lowly-placed Tarxien who seem to be heading to a quick return to Section B. So dominant were Pieta’ that their keeper Matthew Camilleri only dealt with back passes by the colleagues.

The Hotspurs started on the offensive. A Karl Pulo cross was cleared with difficulty from another cross by the same player Dylan Kokavessis drove slightly out.

Pieta’ drew first blood on 13 minutes. From a Matthew Schembri cross, Pulo made no mistake from inside the area.

Shelden Grech then pounced on a faulty clearance and Tarxien keeper Paul Camilleri had to dive and save to corner his hard grounder.

The Hotspurs doubled on 23 minutes through Pulo whose cross shot from the left totally deceived Camilleri with the ball finishing in the top right hand corner of the net.

In Tarxien’s only reaction in the first period, a flagkick by Edmond Vassallo was partially cleared and the rebound by Joseph Cutajar was cleared by a defender.

The second period was also a total dominance by Pieta’. From a Pulo short free-kick pass, Kokavessis drove out by inches and from a Pulo free-kick Camilleri saved in two attempts.

The score became 3-0 on 50 minutes through Kokavessis who finished off a perfect Pulo cross. Pieta’s fourth and final goal was scored on the hour. Sheldon Grech served Gary Busuttil from a free-kick and the latter netted from inside the area.

A very keen and action-packed game. Mgarr managed to win after being twice in arrears. The referee’s control left much to be desired as he ignored the advantage rule on many occasions to the detriment of both sides.

After 11 minutes the woodwork denied Mgarr. Karl Vella was fouled just outside the area, from the resultant Vella free kick , the ball thumped the bar and finished in Zurrieq’s keeper Owen Grech’s waiting hands.

On 18 minutes, Stephen Camilleri should have scored for Mgarr when, from a Karl Vella through ball, he failed to lob the ball over Grech who came out of his charge to narrow the angle. Zurrieq forged ahead on 22 minutes through Wayne Attard who scored from inside the area after a Saliba perfect cross.

Five minutes before the break Mgarr equalised through Matthew Muscat who won a loose ball in Zurrieq’s half and netted with a low shot after advancing.

Ten minutes after the restart, Zurrieq re-established their lead. Robert Ghigo square-passed to Michael Abdilla who scored with a strong rising shot from 40 metres.

Zurrieq were reduced to 10 men on 60 minutes as Saliba was shown the red card for foul language.

On 67 minutes Mgarr equalised for a second time. Stephen Camilleri put Karl Vella neatly through who scored on entering the area. In the second minute of added time Paul Fenech should have scored a third goal for Mgarr after a Mario Muscat cross but he skied the ball with only Grech to beat. But he made amends two minutes later when he headed in the winner from an Ian Vella flagkick.
