Malta Independent Thursday, 16 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

“Over E80 million has been invested in Valletta Fund Management’s euro-denominated investment solutions as at 31 January 2006, thus proving the increasing popularity of these funds among investors,” Kenneth Farrugia, general manager of Valletta Fund Management.

“Over these last years, Valletta Fund Management has been very active in its strategy to be Malta’s leading provider of a comprehensive range of euro-denominated funds investing across all asset classes be they money market, bonds, equity and very recently real estate property.

“This was pursued in the light of Malta’s EU membership and particularly the eventual adoption of the euro as the national currency, earmarked in January 2008,” he said.

Valletta Fund Manage-

ment’s range of euro-denominated funds consists of six investment solutions – the La Valette Euro Money Fund which invests in money market and other short-term debt instruments and featuring a retail and institutional share class, the La Valette Euro Income Fund which invests principally in a portfolio of euro-denominated bonds and the La Valette European Bond Fund which, indirectly, invests in a range of bonds issued by European issuers.

On the equity side, Valletta Fund Management provides investors with a choice of two products – the Vilhena European Multi Manager Fund, which invests in a carefully selected range of European equity funds managed by different fund managers, and the La Valette European Opportunities Fund which, indirectly, invests in shares of European (excluding UK) companies.

Moreover, investors also have the opportunity to widen their portfolios to the real estate property market.

Valletta Fund Management has recently launched the La Valette Multi Manager Property Fund which has already attracted over E20 million worth of investments as at 31 January 2006.

This fund, the first of its kind in Malta, invests in a range of real estate property funds that invest principally in the UK and/or European real estate property markets or in securities linked to real estate property.

Mr Farrugia added, “All our euro-denominated funds are managed by Insight Investment, the asset management arm of the Halifax Bank of Scotland, one of the top UK Banking Groups and a FTSE 100 company. Insight Investment is based in London and as at 30 September 2005 managed over £84 billion for their clients.
