Msida Council ‘typical example’ of PN inefficiency – Dr Alfred Sant

Malta Independent Thursday, 16 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The performance of a Nationalist-led local council in Msida is a typical example of the inefficiency of the PN both on a local and national level, Labour leader Dr Alfred Sant said yesterday.

Speaking at a press conference in Msida, Dr Sant said that the government has been promising flood relief projects in the area for the past 16 years with nothing having ever resulted.

He said that said that in 1989 and 1990, former minister Michael Falzon had assured that the project would enable cars to pass through the area without being caught in rainwater. These promises were made again in 1999 and in 2003 by PN mayor Carmelo Grima but nothing has been done as yet, Dr Sant added.

The Labour leader said that a few months ago, the government had announced that architects from the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry had commenced studies to prepare plans which will eventually be submitted to the EU for an allocation from the 2007-13 EU Budget.

Dr Sant said that there was no need for any studies as the government had supposedly resolved the flood problem in Msida a long time ago – 16 years ago to be exact. He said that Labour would, if elected, make a difference with its councillors and thus resolve the problems in the locality.

Labour’s candidates for Msida are Emmanuel Abela, Emmanuel Brincat, Josef Bugeja, Carmen Chircop, Joseph Demarco and Alexander Sciberras.
