In the Men’s Senior league FDL FEB and Aloysians Lipton obtained two good 3-0 wins against Kerygma Yellows and San Anton respectively. FDL FEB are now in first place, with Kerygma Blues, who did not play this weekend, in second place three points adrift and a game in hand.

FDL FEB did not give much space to Kerygma Yellows to play, and with the latter committing too many service mistakes, and sometimes playing too safe instead of risking just a little bit more, FEB found the going easy, beating them 3-0 in just 65 minutes.

Aloysians Lipton’s win against San Anton was somewhat similar, with the latter not playing up to their recent games’ effort. Although San Anton started very strongly in the first and third sets, going 8-1 and 8-2 up in these occasions, Aloysians Lipton always managed to level and then overtake near the end of these sets.

The other match from the Men’s Senior league between Fleur de Lys B and Aloysians Reds offered a very good spectacle, although both teams stand towards the lower end of the table. FDL B took a 2-0 advantage, inspired by their captain Karl Soler, leaving just 30 points to the opponents in the first two sets.

Aloysians settled down better, and took the next two to set up a fifth tense tie break. They were 8-7 at the break, and kept the same distance from their opponents to win 15-13 and the match 3-2 in a classic comeback match.

In the Ladies Senior league Aloysians Playvolley had the better of a demoralised FDL side, winning 3-0, with the latter just managing 42 points against their opponents’ 75. With Nadia Lanzon serving at her best, the FDL defence was in constant panic, giving away point after point and failing to construct some good attacks.

Paola Hibs Candy and Flyers were involved in another five setter, with current champions Paola taking the upper side only in the last decisive set. This is the closest that Paola Hibs Candy has gone to submit to their first defeat, with Flyers playing one of their best games this season.

Flyers started out very aggressively, taking the first two sets, with Paola Hibs Candy finding difficulty to attack due to a number of mistakes in their serve-defence. However, in the next set, Paola reacted well, improved their reception and covering and started getting the upper hand over a very well organised, yet somewhat still unexperienced, Flyers side. After equalising by winning the fourth set, Paola, ably led by Tiziana Borg, continued playing well in the fifth one, although Flyers were in the game all the time.
