The third multi-sensory room funded by the HSBC Cares For Children Fund has been installed at the Guardian Angel School in Hamrun.

Following the opening of a similar facility at Razzett tal-Hbiberija last year and at the Special Unit in Sannat Primary School last month, the new equipment costing Lm2,800, will be used as part of the therapeutic services offered to the students who attend this school.

“Multi-sensory rooms stimulate children through light, sound and touch. They undoubtedly have a beneficial impact on children with special needs, helping them to interact more effectively with the world around them and, just as important, making them happier. This is the third multi-sensory room which HSBC Cares For Children Fund is funding and it’s a great pleasure to see children making the most of these new facilities,” said HSBC Cares For Children Fund Chairman, Mrs Catherine Gonzi.

Guardian Angel School caters for children with severe learning difficulties.

Originally established in 1963, it has since been extended twice and presently caters for 80 students aged between 5 and 24 years. The majority of students at the school have Down’s Syndrome with the remaining students having various disabilities requiring special educational attention. The specific aim of the school’s classroom activities is to enable each individual to develop independent living skills to the best of one’s ability. Most of the skills covered are cognitive, gross motor, social, language, both receptive and expressive, self-help, cooking, sewing and others. Good health and personal hygiene are promoted and given utmost importance throughout the children’s stay at school. The school also organises many outdoor events and activities for all of its students.
