Confederation of Malta Trade Unions (CMTU) president John Bencini resigned yesterday after just over a year since taking up the post.
Contacted yesterday, Mr Bencini immediately denied that he had resigned for personal reasons as certain media had reported.
“I can confirm that my resignation had nothing to do with personal issues but I cannot comment further at this stage. However, I wish to add that I was not happy with how the CMTU was operating and I do not exclude commenting further on the reasons for my resignation,” Mr Bencini told The Malta Independent.
He also confirmed that he would remain president of the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT).
The CMTU said that a formal statement will be issued after the next National Council meeting on Thursday.
