The General Workers’ Union praised women for their contribution to the country’s economic development.
In a message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the union praised women for striking a balance between their family responsibilities and work.
The union stated that it was concerned that women are still being discriminated against at work with regard to working conditions and wages.
The GWU pointed out that it was one of the first to speak out in favour of women having decent salaries and in line with those that men receive. It was also among the first to offer child care facilities at a subsidised rate.
