Former Repubblika president Robert Aquilina has been questioned by the police over an alleged domestic incident.
The altercation is believed to have taken place on Friday evening took place in Aquilina's home. A police officer on fixed point in front of his house intervened when he heard shouting coming from inside the home.
MaltaToday reports that a magistrate refused a request for his arrest, and Aquilina was instead summoned to the Police HQ in Floriana on Saturday afternoon.
Aquilina was interrogated by police at the corps' Floriana headquarters and is expected to be charged under summons.
His lawyer, Arthur Azzopardi told Times of Malta his client was denying all accusations and had full faith in judicial institutions to clear his name.
Aquilina leads the Malta branch of the Giovanni Falcone foundation and is honorary president of Repubblika, the rule of law NGO he co-founded.
