Malta Independent Thursday, 9 March 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The 16th edition of the Dingli 10 Road Race, which has been organised jointly by St. Patrick’s A.C. and the Dingli Local Council for the past six years will again be held on Sunday 26 March.

Since the first edition in 1991, the Dingli 10 Road Race has become established as a tradition, and one of the most prestigious fixtures of the Maltese running calendar.

The start and finish of the race are at the square next to the Francis Ebejer monument, at the centre of Dingli. The course is ten miles long (16 kms). Runners will go down to Fiddien Valley for the first four miles before the terrain becomes quite hilly. Then they will pass through country roads towards the spectacular and panoramic Dingli Cliffs before the final, very fast one-mile dash back to the centre of Dingli.

The main race will start at 9 am, and shortly after there will be a Junior Race for athletes under 17 over a distance of 2.3 miles as well as a Fun Run.

There are many prizes to be won in all three races, apart from a commemorative medal for all the finishers, including participants in the Fun Run. This year the race will be sponsored by Red Bull and Kristal Mineral Water.

Application forms are available from the Club’s Website www.stpatricks-ac.org, from Walley’s Shop in Valletta and by calling on 7970 8650 or 2141 0648. In all about 100 participants are expected to take part in the 10 Mile Road Race. Last year’s winners were Jonathan Balzan in a time of 55.27min and Angela Sammut in a time of 1.08.46.
