Malta will also be represented in the referees’ field as local international basketball referee, Bernard Vassallo was nominated by the world governing basketball body, FIBA, late last year to be one of its referees for the these Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Vassallo will be travelling this weekend to Australia where he will join the other 18 referees, from around the world, that were also nominated for the Melbourne games.

There will be both a men’s and a women’s competition with eight respective countries taking part. Malta is taking part in the women’s tournament among top world nations like Australia, Nigeria and New Zealand.
