Company Volunteers help transform children’s homes

Malta Independent Monday, 20 March 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Six companies joined forces yesterday to help various homes looking after people in need as part of Corporate Social Responsibility Day, organised by the HSBC Cares for Children Fund.

Apart from helping out in the homes, the volunteers also met with President Edward Fenech Adami, who visited St Joseph Home in Santa Venera to thank those present for their efforts. Throughout the day, work was also being carried out at Dar tal-Kleru in Birkirkara, Dar Qalb ta’ Gesu in Santa Venera, St Theresa Home in Zurrieq, Residenza Vajrita in Marsascala and Dar Merhba Bik in Balzan.

This was the fifth year the event was held. In addition to staff from HSBC, Farsons Group, Gasan Group and Mizzi Organisation – who have taken part every year – Vodafone and M Demajo Group also joined the team.

“CSR Day has really made a great difference to the quality of life of disadvantaged children,” said HSBC Cares for Children Fund chairman Catherine Gonzi. She said that the help of the company volunteers work was carried out that would have taken the homes themselves years to complete.

“This year our team was strengthened with the participation of Vodafone and M Demajo Group, enabling us to further enhance our efforts,” Mrs Gonzi concluded.
