Work on the rebuilding of the road from Victoria to San Lawrenz in Gozo has progressed extremely well and at an advanced stage, the government said yesterday.
Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono and Urban Development and Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett paid an on-site visit recently and said that the project was the first of three projects co-financed by the European Union which will leave a huge impact on one’s driving experience in Gozo.
Later this year, work will begin on two other major roads co-financed by the EU. These are the roads from Mgarr port to Ghajnsielem and from Victoria to Xlendi.
Mr Mugliett said that around 15 per cent of the island’s roads are being re-built.
Work on the 3.7-kilometre road leading to San Lawrenz started a month ago, that on the Mgarr to Ghajnsielem road will start in a few weeks time as soon as the adjudication process is concluded, while work on the Victoria to Xlendi road will start in summer.
The EU voted a total of e4.3 million for the Victoria to San Lawrenz Road.
