Two out of the three immigrants who were still at large after escaping from the police headquarters on Friday have been caught, the police said yesterday.
Police captured a 19-year-old Palestinian and a 17-year-old from Sudan in Mosta late on Saturday night.
The three immigrants were part of a group of irregular immigrants who escaped from detention at the Police Headquarters in Floriana on Friday.
The immigrants were staging a protest in the early afternoon, taking advantage of the visit by members of the European Parliament to Malta who came over to visit the detention centres.
The group of immigrants ran away when the gates were opened to allow two immigrants to be taken out of the centre. A large number of the immigrants charged at the gates and prevented them from closing.
The police closed off the areas surrounding the headquarters and the nearby Valletta Terminus, managing to round up all but three irregular immigrants.
