Malta’s young prospect in Double Trap, William Chetcuti, could only finish in 13th place in an International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup event in Qingyuan, China, yesterday.

The competition, over three rounds of 50, saw Chetcuti hitting 46 clays in the first round, an excellent 49 in the second and a poor 39 in the third. It was the poor third round result which saw Chetcuti slipping down the final standings.

In fact, by the end of the second round, Chetcuti was occupying third place with a score of 95 (46, 49) behind Thomas Turner of Australia who had a brilliant score of 99 (49, 50) and second placed Vitaly Fokeev of Russia who had a score of 96 (48, 48).

His score of 134 was equal to that of Jeffrey Holguin of the United States and Nan Wang of China who, however, were placed 11th and 12th respectively in the final standings.

The competition was won by Fokeev with a total of 191. Turner could only finish sixth as he only hit 39 targets in the barrage (final six).
