Bowling: Eden SuperBowl Hosts third Globalair Youth Open

Malta Independent Thursday, 20 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Eden SuperBowl will be holding the third Malta Youth Open between today and Saturday, the event once again being sponsored by Globalair Travel Ltd. who have backed the Youth Open since its inaugural edition in 2004.

The tournament is open to bowlers aged 24 years or less, and while Malta will be well represented by up and coming youngsters largely from the national Youth and Junior squads, the SuperBowl will also be hosting a similar number of young athletes from other countries, largely from the UK.

All entrants will take part in both singles and doubles events in their respective categories (male and female under-18 and under-24) with trophies being awarded for the top three placings in each competition. The combined individual performances from the doubles and singles will then decide the ‘Masters’ event, where the top six bowlers in each category will battle it out to decide the two Malta Youth Open Champions.

Globalair Travel Director, Mark Bugeja stated, “Globalair Travel has always been involved in the ever-growing sports-tourism sector, which is a very important part of the industry we’re in”. He continued, “Collaborations like the Youth Open, organised by the Eden SuperBowl, along with other International bowling tournaments organised during the year serve to attract many hundreds of sportsmen and women to our shores. Globalair Travel is very pleased to be part of that, and we continue to give our full support and encouragement for such efforts”.

The competitors yesterday got the feel of the SuperBowl’s lanes during a practice session. Competition starts with the Doubles event today and then the Singles tomorrow. The climax of the Youth Open will be the Masters Round Robin stage on Saturday, followed by the divisional finals in the afternoon.
