Malta Independent Saturday, 22 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Malta Transport Authority said that further to the adverts published recently in the media relating to the importation of foreign registered vehicles into Malta, foreigners with working permits (non-residents) will not have their vehicles towed as long as they are covered by a temporary ADT permit.

To obtain this permit, non-residents are being asked to call at the Licensing and Testing Directorate, Hornworks Ditch, Floriana and complete the relevant application form (also downloadable from www.maltatransport.com) for the necessary temporary permit to use the foreign registered vehicle in Malta and Gozo without paying any registration tax and licence fees, for the duration of their work permit.

Non-residents will still be responsible to keep the vehicle duly insured and licensed in the original country of registration. The non-residents are kindly asked to attach the following documents with their request:

• Copy of work permit;

• Copy of contract with employer;

• Copy of vehicle registration certificate (log book)

• Copy of valid insurance policy (issued at Country of Origin)

• Copy of valid road licence of vehicle (issued at Country of Origin)

• Copy of identity card or passport.

It is important that the vehicles are driven by the person in whose name the permit has been issued.

To conclude, the authority also notifies that Tourists are permitted to use their vehicles for a maximum of six months in any given year without the need to apply for a permit.

The Licensing and Testing Directorate from Monday to Friday between 8am and 12pm. For more information please visit www.maltatransport.com or call Freephone 80072309.
