Maltese Girls face Slovenia today

Malta Independent Wednesday, 26 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The team will be facing Slovenia in a match valid for the European qualification competition for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2007.

Although starting to take part in international competitions in recent years, our women’s team has played to acceptable standards. None more so than in their last two matches.

Their dedication to perform to the best levels and their spirited commitment were always evident and coach Pierre Brincat, together with his team of assistants, have worked hard to help the team produce their utmost despite our limited resources.

The match against Slovenia today is another opportunity for our women to show they are a valid side capable of putting up decent performances against teams from more established footballing nations.

The team certainly deserves the support of the Maltese public this evening. Backing from the terraces will be much needed in order that the girls could give a good account of themselves.

Brincat will be selecting his team for today’s match from among the following players:

Goalkeepers: S. Costantino, T. Dimech.

Defenders: T. Agius, M. Azzopardi, M. Debono, M. Deguara, LA Gales, I. Mazzitelli, N. Pace, D. Theuma.

Midfielders: T. Briffa, R. Gatt, J. Coates, R. D’Agostino, AJ Scicluna, CR. Steer.

Strikers: Y. Carabott, R. Chircop, K. Lia, K. Saliba.
