Stephen Farrugia’s and Edward Gatt’s work has once again, for the second year running, proved to be fundamental and successful in the Junior competitions in the female sector.
Their club, Flyers, managed to scoop the three titles for the second year running, dominating the U/19 league in the process, while having to fight a little harder in the U/14 and U/16 leagues.
In the U/19 league, Flyers ended up 12 points ahead of their closest opponents, Aloysians Playvolley, succumbing just once against in the process. The same happened in the other two categories; however, Flyers had to get rid of Kerygma in the U/16 league, and of Paola Hibs Candy in the U/14 one before lifting the trophy.
Unfortunately, Flyers could not keep the same success in the Ladies Senior League, losing 3-1 against a determined Aloysians Playvolley side. The latter reached their pre-season target of finishing in the top three places.
X-Sel, on the other hand, continued with their pressure on league leaders Paola Hibs Candy, beating CFK Fleur de Lys in straight sets, to move to within four points with two matches to go, including a direct encounter.
In the Men’s categories, Aloysians Lipton moved into a lonely second place position in the First Division, after beating CFK Fleur de Lys FEB 3-1, with the current champions succumbing to their third defeat in a row.
Michael Magro’s San Anton, Second Division leaders, made another bold move towards retaining their title, beating Kerygma Yellows 3-0. In a match that lasted just the first set, which San Anton won 26-24, Kerygma could not keep up the rhythm, losing the next two sets 25-19 and 25-15.
