BOV Premier League: Hamrun Play last hopes this evening

Malta Independent Friday, 5 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Hamrun Spartans will this evening against Mosta play their last hopes of avoiding a quick return to First Division football next season.

The Spartans are in desperate position at the bottom of the table, and only a win against Charles Agius’ side will keep them hoping.

The Spartans are in dismal state, and have not gained a single point in the relegation pool, suffering four consecutive defeats.

Hamrun needed only a point from their last match against Msida in the regular season to gain access to the championship pool.

However their defeat against Msida was the start of their incredible downfall, suffering fourteen goals in four matches in the relegation pool.

On the other hand their opponents this evening are in better shape and are the team to beat in this relegation pool, having won three and drawn the other.

For Mosta a win today will put them on top of the table, leaving Floriana and Pieta to fight it out between them.

In the other match this evening Marsaxlokk face Valletta.

The South Seasiders will go all out to avenge the first round defeat against the off-form Citizens.

Paul Zammit’s side is still smarting from two consecutive defeats, whilst Marsaxlokk are still hoping to catch up with Champions Sliema in second place.

The first match this evening starts at 6pm, with the Marsaxlokk-Valletta clash following at 8pm.
