Waterpolo – Wilkinson Sword Winter League: Sliema-Sirens Face off in important match

Malta Independent Saturday, 6 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Sliema Burger King and 2X Sirens face each other this afternoon at the Tal-Qroqq Pool in match which might determine their fate in this year’s winter League.

At present, Neptunes lead the standings with 10 points from six matches. They are followed by Sliema on eight points from six matches and Sirens on six points from five matches. San Giljan follow on just four points and Marsaxlokk prop up the table with no points.

Taking into consideration that Neptunes still have to face Sirens in their final encounter, it is evident that the St Paul’s Bay still have a better chance than Sliema to join Neptunes and force a decider for the title by winning that final match.

But a victory for Sliema today could also mean that if Neptunes lose against Sirens, then a decider will probably become necessary between the two local big rivals, Sliema and Neptunes, to determine the outcome.
