Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Six soldier artists – Brigadier Maurice Calleja, Brigadier Claude Gaffiero, Colonel Ronnie de Renzy Channer, Captain Eric Gerada Azzopardi, Major Martin Scicluna and Major Philip Zammit Briffa – are holding an exhibition of their paintings at Palazzo Santa Sofia, in Mdina on Friday.

The exhibition will be opened by President Emeritus, Dr Censu Tabone.

The exhibition will be open to the public on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10am to 4pm. The exhibition is being held at Palazzo Santa Sofia by courtesy of the Baron and Baroness Apap Bologna Sceberras D’Amico Inguanez.

The six soldier artists – collectively known as the Fort St Elmo School of Painters – first held an exhibition in May 2000 in aid the Malta Hospice Movement. This was followed in May 2003 with an exhibition in aid of the Eden Foundation. They raised thousands of pounds for both these charities. This time their focus is on the Malta Red Cross Society which has done such outstanding work for the Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka.

There will be 42 paintings in the exhibition. All paintings are for sale, but everyone is welcome just to come and browse.
