Unemployment rises by 359 in one year, NSO says

The number of registered unemployed persons stood at 1,397 in April 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 359 individuals compared to April 2025 and an increase of 110 persons compared to the previous month.

Data provided by Jobsplus for April 2026 indicate a year-on-year increase of 326 persons and 33 persons registering under Part I and Part II of the unemployment register, respectively. Males accounted for 64.9 per cent (907 individuals) of total registrants, while females comprised 35.1 per cent (490 individuals). Registered unemployment increased in all age groups, with the largest rise recorded among people aged 45 and over.

A year-on-year increase was recorded across most registration duration categories. The largest rise occurred among individuals registered for under 21 weeks, increasing by 271 persons. In contrast, a decrease of six persons was observed among those registered for over one year. 

The number of persons with a disability registering for work decreased by nine persons over the same period in 2025, reaching 208 persons. Males accounted for 67.3 per cent of total registrants with a disability.

The largest shares of persons, both for males and females, on the unemployment register sought occupations as Clerical support workers, with the respective proportions from the total number of registrants by sex standing at 25.6 per cent and 37.1 per cent.
