Artlinks, originally the brainchild of Ms Cappello (Erin Serracino Inglott Secondary School Headmistress) in 1999, is an event aiming to bring together students from different schools by means of modern art.
This year Artlinks is being hosted by St Edward’s College. For the second time round, St Edward’s head of creative arts department Denise Borg Millo is bringing together pupils from nine schools based in the south eastern and southern harbour districts to produce art pieces linked to a particular theme. All artwork will then be exhibited on College grounds.
The event, running until Friday, consists of the production of artwork linked to the main theme of the event : ‘The Garden: A Source of Inspiration’. In fact, the activities will all take place in the landscaped front gardens of St Edward’s College.
“Year after year, Artlinks develops new ideas brought in by both teachers and students participating in its organisation. This year St Edward’s has introduced the concept of linking Artlinks activities to other subjects taught at College, namely Drama, Music, Math, English, Maltese, French, Humanities, Business, PSD, ICT, Sports and Sciences. This very much ties in with the holistic approach to education employed at St Edward’s. Also, due to the fact that the theme of the event is strongly linked to nature, another idea we are introducing this year is that artwork will be mostly produced using reusable material such as sacks, plaster, glass, metal and plastic,” Ms Borg Millo said.
Artlinks will be officially launched by Director General of Education Dr Cecilia Borg today at St Edward’s College.
