The Gift of Life group has condemned a Maltese MEP who said on television that he is favour of the morning after pill being made available in Malta.

In a statement, Gift of Life said that Dr John Attard Montalto had stated on the Bondiplus television programme that, after voting in the European Parliament in favour of the morning after pill, as well as for abortive measures in cases of rape in war zones, he is also in favour of the morning after pill being made available in Malta.

“Gift of Life feels that any Maltese member of parliament, be they members of the Maltese or European parliament, has a duty to champion the values that our country still holds in high regard, especially when our country’s representatives have been elected in good faith based also on these values.”

Gift of Life said that they rejected any suggestion that Malta should legalise the morning after pill, especially when “we know that the morning after pill may also be abortive”.
