The first edition of the Malta Television Awards organised by the Tourism and Culture Ministry was launched yesterday.
“The awards were created as a platform to honour and celebrate outstanding Maltese creativity, talent and achievement and to set a Maltese standard for young people to aspire to in the future,” a ministry statement said.
There are three main categories in the Malta Television Awards: technical and creative, programming, and performance, with a minimum of three judges for each category.
In the technical and creative category, there will be awards for best director, best editing, best original song and best animation.
Best sports programme, best drama, best documentary and best reality programme are some of the awards in the programming category.
Through the People’s Choice Award, the public can choose the Best TV Personality of the Year.
The Charles Arrigo Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to one person for his/her contribution to television.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 21 July and the nominations night will be taking place on 25 August.
The Awards Night will be held on 16 September at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
