Malta Independent Friday, 12 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Libya is a massive opportunity for Maltese businessmen to succeed. This can happen if Maltese businessmen have the courage to make the most of the relationship that exists between the two countries, Industry, Investment and IT Minister Austin Gatt said yesterday.

He was addressing a conference entitled “Succeeding in Libya”, organised by EMCS.

The minister stressed that Malta’s historic, social and economic ties played an important role in the historic development of relations between both countries.

He said the opening of the Libyan market was a challenge for Maltese businessmen but real opportunities existed.

Minister Austin Gatt said that Maltese businessmen have to look beyond our shores. Those who had a vision and courage to operate abroad had been successful, referring to the Corinthia Group, Bortex, Hili Group and 6PM.

He said there was great potential in tourism, in the services sector and in ICT.

The minister urged local companies to grasp the opportunities that the emerging Libyan economy will provide.
