Msida Valley Interchange to be realigned

Malta Independent Friday, 12 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Urban Development and Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett opened an exhibition of projects by students in the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering who are specialising in road engineering.

The projects focus on how the Msida Valley junction can be improved.

In a short speech, the minister said that demand for road engineering is high and will continue to increase because of the government’s commitment to improve the road network.

He said he was pleased the students had chosen Msida for their projects, as this area is earmarked for several ambitious infrastructural projects, even because Msida is affected heavily by what goes on in zones nearby. For example, Msida will be affected by projects that are taking place in Manoel Island and Tigne.

The ministry is working on 13 road projects to be funded by the European Union, and two of them in areas that will also have an effect on Msida. They are the rebuilding and realignment of the interchange over Msida Valley (leading up to Psaila Street) and the building of three bridges crossing the valley; and the multi-level junction that is to replace the Kappara roundabout.

Another project is the link between Manoel Island and Kappara and the annular link around the Tigne peninsula. All these projects will materialise in five years, Mr Mugliett said.

The exhibition is being held at the Melita Band Club in Msida. It is open today and tomorrow from 6pm to 8pm, and on Sunday from 9am to 11am.
