A ‘magical’ Opportunity for Maltese singers

Malta Independent Saturday, 13 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As a result of a collaborative agreement between the Malta Academy of Performing Arts and its UK partners Greyology Inc., a Maltese singer aged between 13 and 25 will next month have the opportunity to travel to Belfast to take part in the Cinemagic Music Festival for young people that will be held in Belfast between 22 and 24 June.

Details about this opportunity were recently announced at a press conference addressed by members of the Academy as well as Chris Grey from Greyology Inc. who is in Malta this weekend for talks with the Academy on further collaboration between the two sides.

Cinemagic Music Festival is the first event of its kind in the UK and Ireland and has grown from the award-winning Cinemagic World Screen Film and Television Festival, also based in Belfast. The Cinemagic Festival offers young people interested in making a career in the music business the opportunity to learn from industry professionals and gain an insight into this exciting field.

The four-day event will include numerous unique master classes, question and answer sessions and industry talk. Some of the participating singers, including the one from Malta, will take part in an outdoor concert during the event, which will be attended by thousands of people. The Maltese singer will perform on stage with John and CeCe, who will also be joined by S Club pop star Calvin Golspink and pop duet 2-4-2.

This year’s festival has managed to secure some of the best names in the music industry. Legends such as Alan McGee, Kevin Godley, Steve White, Eric Bell and Damon Minchella are among those who will be supporting the event.

Maltese singers aged between 13 and 25 who are interested in taking part in this event are invited to collect an application from the academy’s administrative office at 2 St Pius Street, Sliema or from any Exotique outlet.

Applicants should submit an original song or cover version, the lyrics of which should be in English. The selection will be carried out by Pop Idol vocal coaches and singers John and CeCe live on television on 3 June.

Applications will be received until noon on 27 May.

Further information is available by sending an e-mail to [email protected] or by telephoning no. 2133-1775.

This initiative is supported by the Xara Palace Hotel, the Vivaldi Hotel and Hamilton Travel Co. Ltd.
