Enemalta said it regretted any inconvenience caused by the distribution system upgrading work currently being carried out in Bugibba.
In a statement, following a press conference by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association, Enemalta said that this work had been started in February and had stopped for two weeks over Easter to minimise the inconvenience to commercial establishments in the area.
This upgrading of the distribution system has involved the installation of new feeders and the replacement of old unreliable feeders, and is intended to strengthen the system. Last year there were a number of extensive outages that this upgrading is intended to minimise.
Most of the work has now been completed and the remaining work involves a 150m trench from Triq il-Kbira to Triq il-Kahli, over half of which has already been excavated. The work is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
The MHRA had said that such work should not be done at this time of the year, when tourism is gearing up. It, should, said the association, be carried out between January and March.
