Malta Independent Sunday, 14 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Having already reached the fourth single release from her third album Accident Prone – the official launch of which last November was attended by 1,600 people – Ira Losco is easily Malta’s biggest music success story to date.

Following the previous successful releases of I don’t wanna talk about it, Get Out and Everyday, her current single release, Driving One of Your Cars, reached its climax last week, dominating the local airwaves after a record-breaking three weeks in the radio charts.

These past three years have seen Ira dominating the local music scene, with her previous album releases, namely Someone Else, followed by the remix album Blends and Remixes of Someone Else, both topping local sales charts. However, her highly acclaimed Accident Prone has surpassed these, easily becoming the highest selling local album for 2005/2006.

The young singer/songwriter has had little time to savour her success, as she has already started work on some new tracks. After her summer tour in Germany in 2005 – memorable for her playing support to acts such as Katie Melua, Elton John and Melanie C – Ira Losco and her band are currently preparing for some upcoming shows and studio recording sessions.

The versatile line-up includes Alex Mallia (ex Limestone Kick/Characters) on acoustic/electric guitar, Adam Bonello (ex Characters) on electric guitar, a dynamic Steve ‘Cannibal’ Muscat on drums and female bass player Nadienne Sacco.

“This is exactly where I want to be, creating and performing with musicians who are professional, who love my music and enjoy being together on stage. I have a strong connection with the people I am surrounded by, because they share my same ambition. I believe hard work earns results and this new line-up, together with the constant support and professional guidance of Howard Keith, is what keeps me in love with music” said an enthusiastic Ira Losco.

The World Cup events hosted in Germany this June/July have also provided her with an opportunity to start work on some new projects that will definitely keep the momentum going right up until next year.

Ira Losco’s ever-growing popularity does not seem to fade, with her website boasting more than 200,000 hits in just 14 months, as well as the addition of another 10 or so unofficial websites. Constant interaction with her fans has not only kept Ira and her music in demand, packing every venue she plays, but has also kept her audience eagerly anticipating anything this innovative singer has up her sleeve.

With such determination and love for what she does, Ira Losco will never cease to impress. Future highlights include a support act to Bob Geldof, who will be performing on 28 June in aid of the YMCA.
