Quadruple Crown celebration by Sliema

Malta Independent Thursday, 18 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Sliema Wanderers FC are commemorating the 50th anniversary since they won the famous Quadruple Crown for the second time in their history.

This crown consisted of the four major competitions at that time, that is, the Johnnie Walker Cup (championship), the FA Trophy, the Cassar Cup and the Scicluna Cup.

The Blues’ first quadruple crown win was in season 1923/24. They did it again in 1955/56 and a third time also in 1964/65.

A reception is being held in honour of the 1955/56 winning team and committee as 12 players still survive from that squad of 15 players.

All four trophies will be on display at the reception which is to be held at the club in Tower Road on Sunday 28 May from 10.30am.

Members of the club needing tickets for the reception are to contact Godfrey Pace (79092410), Sunny Borg (21361233) or Joe Anastasi (99452820) or get them from the Club’s Nursery at Tal-Qroqq. A donation of Lm2 per ticket to cover the costs will be appreciated by the organisers.

Members of the club, as well as all football supporters are welcome to attend.
