Dr Kirill Micallef-Stafrace, Chairman of The Malta Olympic Medical Commission, has recently attended the 22nd Executive meeting of the European Federation of Sports Medicine Association (EFSMA) Held in Brussels.

The most salient point discussed was the emergence of Sports and Exercise Medicine as a speciality in Europe, such that a Multidisciplinary Joint Committee has been appointed and this should result in the speciality being recognised throughout the EU within four years.

Other topics discussed included the promotion of exercise and health throughout the community and the importance of regular educational courses among health professionals that work with athletes.
