Tarxien Rainbows Football Club opened their new football ground this week after this was extensively renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art synthetic turf and lighting.

Speaking before the inauguration, urban development minister Jesmond Mugliett said that the creation of such modern facilities confirms the success of government's enduring policy to transfer the title of such property to individual sports clubs. He said that Tarxien Rainbows have transformed what was once a derelict field into a football pitch unlike any other in the country.

Recalling the time when he was president of the same club, minister Mugliett said that such ambitious projects cannot materialise without the dedication and sacrifice of the club's committee members and the investment from the sponsors.

"The new nursery was opened just last year followed by this new football pitch. This is a club that has started a metamorphosis which will take it to greater heights," the minister concluded.

The synthetic turf that the new Tarxien Rainbows football ground is equipped with is the Profoot 60 made by Lano Sports of Belgium. The type is certified for professional use by both UEFA and FIFA. The lighting used on the pitch is supplied by Abacus. It is the first lighting of the type to be used in Malta and is designed to minimise light pollution. In fact, very little light spills over into the surrounding streets due to the projectors being oriented at 65-75 degrees to the field of play.
