GRTU To withdraw from NECC

Malta Independent Tuesday, 30 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises announced that it would be withdrawing from the National Euro Changeover Committee with immediate effect following what it has termed “serious problems” with the committee’s operation.

Contacted yesterday, GRTU Director General Vince Farrugia said that the government was not consulting with the GRTU and was forging ahead in its policies on the euro changeover issue without any discussion.

“We have serious problems with the operation of this committee as it is clear that the government wants to move ahead without bringing on board the stakeholders from all business sectors. It decided to issue the Euro Adoption Act again without any consultation and this was the last straw as we cannot continue operating in such an environment”.

Mr Farrugia said that the GRTU will be giving further details on its decision as well as its comments on the Euro Adoption Act during a press conference today.
