The Bank of Valletta football team will be in Rimini, Italy, next week to defend the Mastercard Tournament title they won last year in Crete.
The Mastercard Tournament is an annual event with participation of football teams from banks operating in Europe. This year’s tournament will also include the participation of teams from Greece, Holland, Italy, Belgium and Turkey.
Bank of Valletta Chief Executive Officer, Tonio Depasquale, met the BOV team and officials prior to their departure wished them well for their participation within this international tournament.
Mr Depasquale said, “BOV is pleased to be participating in this international annual tournament which brings together a number of teams from European banks. It was indeed an honour for BOV to have won the tournament last year and we look forward to the team’s successful participation this year”.
As a sign of recognition of the Bank’s support to the team over the years, Joe Micallef, President of the BOV Football Section presented Mr Depasquale with a memento to commemorate the BOV team’s participation in the Mastercard tournament. The BOV contingent will be led by BOV Director, George Portanier who is also the president of the BOV Sports and Social Club.
