Malta was beaten 71-61 by Wales yesterday in the Promotion Cup in Albania.

It was the third defeat for the Maltese from four matches. Their only victory was registered on Thursday against Gibraltar.

The session scores were 14-19, 13-14, 25-12, 19-16.

As can be seen from the above scores, at the interval, the Maltese were leading 33-27, but another diastrous third session, which they lost 25-12, brought about their downfall as Wales took command and went on to win the final session 19-16 to register a 71-61 win.

Steve Schembri was Malta’s top scorer in this match with 15 points. He was followed by Michael Naudi on 14 points and Adrian Micallef on 10.

The other points were obtained by D. Schembri 7, C. Sammut 6, K. Baldacchino 5 and S. Cassar 4.
