Maltese national pool teams today leave for Blackpool, England to take part in the World Pool Championships that are being held between today and 16th June.

The Malta Pool Association is sending two teams to compete in the Mens Open Championships and in the Under 18 Juniors championships.

The men’s team is made up of Antoine Cuschieri, Ivan Rizzo, Mario Cutajar, Duncan Bezzina, Jesmond Schembri, Marcel Micallef, Stanley Chircop, Clint Azzopardi, Adrian Camilleri u Christ Mills while Miguel Falzon, Maverick Zammit, Ryan Barbara, Malcolm Azzopardi, Robert Fenech u Xylon Aquilina will compose the juniors side. Carmel Cilia will be managing the Mens National Team while Manuel Lauro will be administering the Juniors national team. Vincent Degiorgio will be heading the whole Maltese contingent. Last year Malta registered very good results by reaching the semi finals play offs losing to finalists India.

Fourteen countries will be participating in these championships. Title holders England, Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Wales, France, Spain, Kenya, South Africa, Australia, India, West Indies together with Malta will open the tournament today.

Vincent Degiorgio, currently treasurer of both the European and World Federations, will be contesting the election for the treasury post of the World Body for the coming three years.

Vincent Degiorgio said that he is optimistic that the Maltese teams will once again achieve good results. He also thanked Café Marque of Valletta and Teamsport for their sponsorship and assistance to this participation.
