A company filed a judicial protest against Rabat local council yesterday, claiming that its contract for grass cutting and cleaning of non-urban areas had been terminated for no apparent reason.
The protest against the council was filed by Green Planet Trading, which claimed it had a contract to cut grass and clean non-urban roads in Rabat for Lm6,043 a year. The company claimed that on 26 January this year, the contract was extended and to also include the pruning of trees for an extra Lm2,000 a year.
It said that on 12 May, it was informed by the council’s executive secretary that its contract had been terminated with immediate effect. The company said that the termination of the contract had adversely affected it, since it had invested in new machinery and tools.
The company called on the court to declare the decision taken by the council null and void and hold the council responsible for the damages it will sustain as a result of this decision.
Dr Malcolm Mifsud and Dr Cedric Mifsud signed the writ.
