The Maltese national team had a positive start in the World Pool Championships being held in Blackpool, England, by registering two prestigious victories over Northern Ireland and Australia with an identical score of 12-9.

In the first game against Northern Ireland, the Maltese players opened quite well and won the first two sessions with an identical score of 5-2 thus building an advantage of 10-4.

In the third and last session Duncan Bezzina started by winning his frame to ascertain Malta’s victory. Northern Ireland came back by winning five frames in a row but Antione Cuschieri halted their winning spree and set a more comfortable 12-9 win for Malta.

Against Australia, Malta was trailing 8-6 at the end of the second session, but three consecutive wins from Clint Azzopardi, Stanley Chircop and Adrian Camilleri turned the score in Malta’s favour.

Australia gained one back but the last three Maltese players, Duncan Bezzina, Christ Mills and Antione Cuschieri resisted very well and won their respective frames to register a second victory for Malta.

Duncan Bezzina was the best Maltese player so far winning five out of six frames.
