Women’s Football: Maltese girls face Bosnia-Herzegovina today at Hibs Ground

Malta Independent Wednesday, 7 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Malta will be playing Bosnia Herzegovina today at the Hibs Ground, Corradino, in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2007 European qualification competition.

This will be the return match after the Maltese went down to a narrow 1-0 away defeat against their opponents from the Balkans.

The team, under the technical assistance of Pierre Brincat, has played to satisfactory levels in recent games and the progress our girls have shown since they made their debut on the international stage is noticeable.

However, some close defeats, especially away from home, have not done justice to the spirit and commitment the Maltese have infused in their game throughout all their competitive matches.

Today, our girls will be eyeing better pastures against Bosnia, and if they play as well as they did in their last matches a positive result is within their capabilities.

This can only be achieved through some good support from the stands.

The Malta squad:

Goalkeepers: S. Costantino, T. Dimech

Defenders: T. Agius, M. Azzopardi, M. Debono, M. Deguara, LA Galea, N. Pace, D. Theuma.

Midfielders: J. Coates, F. Sammut, R. D’Agostino, A. Scicluna, R. Steerchatham, D. Tonna.

Strikers: Y. Carabott, S. Caruana, R. Chircop, L. Lia, K. Saliba.

The match kicks off at 6pm. Admission is free.
