Malta Independent Friday, 9 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A woman has been jailed for a total of 26 months after she pleaded guilty to theft and, as a result of her conviction, a previous suspended sentence came into force.

Jacqueline Rapinett, 29, from Cospicua, pleaded guilty to stealing several gold rings from a house in Hamrun belonging to Carmelo Muxi on Wednesday.

She also pleaded guilty to being in possession of stolen items.

The court heard how, on 25 November 2005, Rapinett was found guilty of committing another crime and was given a 14-month suspended jail term. As she committed another crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term, the 14 months’ sentence comes into force and is added to the most recent conviction.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi jailed Rapinett for a total of 26 months.

Police inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
