Malta Independent Saturday, 10 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A record-breaking 174 songs were submitted for this year’s edition of Konkors Kanzunetta Independenza, which is open to all authors and composers of Maltese nationality

Singers have to be 16 years and over, and have to be Maltese as well.

The next step is the elimination phase during which the expert jury has to listen to every song and choose 20 finalists.

Singers who have more than one song chosen will have to choose only one, with the composers having the choice of other changing the signer or dropping the song altogether.

The finals will be held on Monday 18 September with an expert jury choosing the winning song while the public will have the chance to vote for its favourite song.

The televoting will in no way influence the final result.

The committee for Konkors Kanzunetta Independenza is made up of Frederick Zammit (chairperson), Erica Gauci, Mildred Micallef and Ray Cassar.
