National Crime prevention campaign among students

Malta Independent Saturday, 10 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Once again, Prison Fellowship Malta has organised a writing and drawing competition for students from both primary and secondary schools. This activity was part of our national crime prevention campaign amongst local students. All heads of schools were invited to encourage their teachers and students to take part in such event.

For the first time, the opening of this exhibition was held at the fellowship’s premises at Floriana. Present were Mark F Vella, the director of Prison Fellowship Malta, Sonia Camilleri, the commissioner of children, Maryrose Mifsud, the director of students services, board members of Prison Fellowship Malta, volunteers of the same organisation and several teachers and students from various schools participating in this competition.

As done in previous competitions, various schools from different localities submitted works of high quality. Participants came from St Monica School – Gzira, Dun Guzepp Zammit Brighella Junior Lyceum – Hamrun and Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex – Victoria. The winners were Joel Calleja, Daniel Cassar, Tonio Bezzina, Tara Darmanin, Daniel Cassar, Saviour Bonnici and Christine Attard. All winners were merited a prize while all participants were given a certificate of participation.

It is hoped that this competition sparks a series of activities across the curriculum so that the increase in crime amongst youth can be curtailed.
