Current European Snooker champion Alex Borg goes into the last 32 knock-out stage unbeaten after winning his last two group matches in the 2006 European Snooker Championships currently being held in Constanta, Romania.

Borg beat Dutchman Gerrit Bij de Leij yesterday morning 4-2 and then again emerged 4-1 winner over Jeff Cundy of England in the afternoon in a match to decide the group winner. Borg thus won Group A with seven wins from as many matches.

Borg is among the top eight seeds for today’s draw. He is the third seed behind Jamie Jones of Wales and Kurt Maflin of Norway. The other seeds are Patrick Einsle of Germany (4), Kevin Van Hove of Belgium (5), Yannick Poulain of France (6), John Torpey of Republic of Ireland (7) and Rune Kempe of Denmark (8).

Meanwhile in Group E, Simon Zammit finished second in the group behind Patrick Einsle after beating Rafal Jewtuch of Poland 4-0 yesterday. Simon Zammit will also be seeded in the last 32 stage thus the two Maltese players avoid meeting each other before the last 16.

The last 32 stages will be played today at 5.30pm.
