Two men were yesterday placed on probation for three years after they were found guilty of defrauding a foreign woman out of Lm1,403.

Alfred Agius, 61, of Naxxar and Jody Pisani, 27, of Valletta, were accused of defrauding Anastasia Lesnikova by using her visa card on 7 and 8 February this year.

They were also accused of attempting to further defraud the woman out of Lm2,072 on 11 February 2006 and of knowingly making use of a false document.

Alfred Agius alone was accused of relapsing in view of previous convictions. The court put both accused on probation for three years.

Police inspector Angelo Gafa prosecuted. Dr Piju Valletta and Dr Jose Herrera appeared for the defence.
