Malta Olympic Committee News: Meeting for all local Equestrian sport lovers

Malta Independent Thursday, 15 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Malta Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Malta Equestrian Federation is stepping up efforts to uplift the level of equestrian sports in Malta.

The Federation has recently organised a number of clinics for local riders and is planning for this to become a regular event, with the aim of organising competitions at a higher level locally.

The Malta Equestrian Federation has also set up a training centre on mainland Europe, specifically in Belgium, where Maltese athletes have top-notch facilities, coaching and horses available to them. This is also an ideal location for traveling and transporting horses to competitions across Europe.

The next upcoming major multi sport event under the auspices of the Malta Olympic Committee which includes the equestrian sport discipline are the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, which however is much too near for our current standard in this sport.

However, the 2009 Mediterranean Games which will be held in Pescara, Italy could present an interesting challenge. Hence, the Malta Olympic Committee would like to invite all riders, horse owners and any parties interested in equestrian sports, mainly show-jumping and dressage, to attend an informative discussion on the way forward on Monday 19th June at the Malta Olympic H.Q. at 7.30pm.

This meeting will be chaired and addressed by Director of Sport Pippo Psaila. For further information, interested persons may contact the Malta Olympic Committee on telephone number 21332801 or alternatively by email to [email protected]
