After a two-year absence when they played NK Primorje of Slovenia in the qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, Marsaxlokk, will be renewing their acquaintance with continental teams in the European competitions when today they come up against another Balkan team in the Intertoto Cup first leg tie of the initial round.
This time their opponents are NK Zrinjksi from Bosnia Herzegovina, a team which qualified for the competition after finishing third in their domestic championship last season.
The Maltese, under the temporary charge of Oliver Spiteri until the contracted Brian Talbot takes over later on in the season, will be hoping for a positive scoreline.
