A book written by magistrate Dr Silvio Meli will be launched at the Aula Magna of the Foundation for International Studies, St Paul Street, Valletta, on Friday starting at 6.30pm.
The book contains the English versions of the major decisions taken by the Malta Commission for Fair Trading, between 1995 and 2005.
It also carries an introduction by Prof. Richard Whish, of Kings College, London, who is the eminent international scholar on competition law and practice.
The Malta Commission for Fair Trading acts as a court of appeal following decisions taken by the Office of Fair Competition. It is composed of Magistrate Meli himself, Prof. Lino Briguglio and Karm Farrugia.
The decisions taken by the Commission include some very important ones relating to abuse of dominant positions by firms (predatory pricing and price discrimination), and cartel practices.
The book launch will be preceded by a seminar addressed by Competitiveness and Communi-cations Minister Censu Galea, Magistrate Dr Silvio Meli, Prof. Ian Refalo, and Dr Eugene Buttigieg.
A discussion will follow. The event will be chaired by Prof. Lino Briguglio.
Free copies of the book will be given to those attending.
Those intending to attend the seminar and book launch are asked to complete a registration form, which is available at:
