A company yesterday filed a judicial protest in court in connection with roadworks which Enemalta Corporation is planning to carry out in front of its retail outlet in Birkirkara.
Shoe Market Retail Shops Limited explained that Enemalta has informed it about roadworks which have to be undertaken in order to carry out electricity work. It said it has recently invested thousands of liri to purchase its new shop in Valley Road in Birkirkara and has also spent more to purchase its stock for the summer months.
The company said that as a result of the roadworks, clients will not be able to park their cars in front of the shop, which is the only way which the shop can be reached. The company said it was prepared to accept the situation if the project is undertaken in stages and that the area which is going to be dug up can still be used for parking.
It therefore called on the court to order the corporation not to carry out the said roadworks in a haphazard manner as planned because of the damage it will be sustaining as a result of the project which is expected to take around three months to complete.
The company said it will be holding the corporation responsible for any damages it may sustain.
Dr Chris Cilia signed the writ.
