The death has been announced of the former Neptunes Waterpolo Club goalkeeper Jimmy Micallef Eynaud.
He was one of the club’s stalwarts in the 1950s and early 1960s. During his career, he also had a brief spell with rivals Sliema.
He played for Neptunes between 1951 and 1964 which were definitely the best in his career during which he distinguished himself between the posts, being remembered for his reflexes and sharpness in reading the direction of shots and for his long arms which helped him have a longer reach.
However, as Neptunes had been rebuilding their team, Micallef Eynaud had to wait till the last year (1964) to claim success with Neptunes – they won the League and Cup double.
